Overview
We set the maximum surcharge that applies when a taxi passenger pays for a fare using non-cash payment transactions options, including credit, debit and charge card.
We review the surcharge every two years following completion of the most recent determination.
Current maximum surcharge
The current maximum taxi non-cash payment surcharge came into effect on 1 February 2021, following our review in 2019-20.
The current maximum surcharge is:
- four per cent for most non-cash payment methods
- six per cent for Cabcharge payment instruments.
Review of the maximum surcharge
We have completed our 2022 biennial review of the maximum taxi non-cash payment surcharge.
Our final decision is that the maximum non-cash payment surcharge for taxi services in Victoria remain at unchanged.
The determination will take effect from 15 September 2022.
