We monitor pricing for prescribed services at the Port of Melbourne, advise the minister on accident towing prices, assess and approve rail freight access arrangements, monitor Victorian country and regional taxi fares, and determine taxi fares for metropolitan and large regional zones.
Transport
We monitor the port's compliance with price setting regulations, develop guidelines, and produce inquiries, studies and reviews that promote the long-term interest of port users.
We regulate maximum fares for unbooked commercial passenger vehicles, which include 'rank and hail' taxis. We also produce annual monitoring reports and conduct reviews and inquiries that promote the long-term interests of consumers.
We review Victorian accident towing and storage charges, then use our findings to make recommendations to the Minister for Roads.
Prior to 1 November 2018, we approved or reject rail access arrangements, produced codes and guidelines and conducted reviews of rail access regime.
