Action taken against Green Energy Trading Pty Ltd
6 January 2026
The commission has taken action against Green Energy Trading Pty Ltd’s (Green Energy Trading) for allegedly breaching the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program rules.
Alleged breach
The commission alleges Green Energy Trading and contractors working on its behalf:
- Failed to obtain consumer consent for multiple non-building based lighting upgrades.
- Failed to demonstrate that the energy consumer had acceptance of the lighting design.
Green Energy Trading as a VEU accredited business must ensure contractors acting on their behalf and certificates they create comply with the VEU program rules.
Addressing conduct that compromises market integrity is a compliance and enforcement priority of the commission. This includes a focus on businesses that provide false information to the commission about VEU upgrades.
Our decision
We have:
- Restricted Green Energy Trading’s VEU accreditation, preventing the business from undertaking non-building based lighting upgrades for three months.
- Refused registration and ordered the surrender of 15,881 certificates, and accepted the withdrawal of a further 1,116 certificates created by Green Energy Trading, valued at over $1.3 million*.
