AusNet's enforceable undertaking for failing to maintain outage tracker during February 2024 storm event
The Essential Services Commission has accepted a court enforceable undertaking from AusNet after it allegedly failed to maintain its outage tracker during unplanned interruptions on 13 February 2024.
Under the enforceable undertaking, AusNet will:
- Disburse the previously announced $10 million Energy Resilience Community Fund in accordance with set timeframes, and issue an additional $2 million to the Fund through donating, in equal proportion, to the Brotherhood of St Laurence, St Vincent de Paul and Financial Counsellors Australia.
- Report to the commission about how the Energy Resilience Community Fund has assisted energy customers including how funds were expended.
- Extend the closing date for residential and business customers to apply for hardship grants under the Fund from 30 April 2024 to 30 June 2024.
- Commission two independent reviews about the cause of the outage tracker becoming unavailable and AusNet’s response to the 13 February 2024 storms.
- Publish public notices in The Age and Herald Sun newspapers about the enforceable undertaking.
- Provide a final report to the commission regarding its compliance with the enforceable undertaking.
- Engage an independent auditor to review its compliance with the enforceable undertaking and provide the commission with a compliance report.
