We make recommendations to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety on the prices of accident towing and storage services within metropolitan Melbourne.
How we review accident towing and storage charges
Aside from making recommendations to the minister, we also conduct inquiries and studies on the accident towing and storage industry as required.
Under the Accident Towing Services Act 2007, we conduct a periodic review of accident towing and storage fees. The Department of Transport and Planning is responsible for enforcing and administering the Act and its regulations.
As part of this review, we advise the Minister for Roads and Road Safety on:
- the level of the current fees
- whether unregulated services should be regulated (and what fees they should charge)
- the relevant productivity adjustment factor that applies to annual changes in fees.
We also conducted the accident towing and storage economic regulation review 2015 to consider key regulation matters related to the sector.
The Minister for Roads and Road Safety is the portfolio minister for accident towing.
