CovaU Pty Ltd penalty notices 2025
CovaU Pty Ltd (CovaU) has paid penalties totalling $341,724 after we issued 9 penalty notices on 19 June 2025.
We issued penalty notices to CovaU after it allegedly:
- contacted four electricity customers and one gas customer to offer short-term discounts after the customers had moved to another retailer, in breach of Victoria's win-back offer prohibitions
- contacted three electricity customers about energy contracts, in breach of Victoria's cold-calling prohibitions
- failed to self-report breaches of win-back offer and cold-calling prohibitions to the commission within required timeframes
The alleged breaches took place between February 2023 and March 2024.
Cold-calling, door-knocking and win-back offers were banned in 2021 as part of a suite of changes to protect Victorian energy customers from high pressure sales tactics.
