Under the Transport (Compliance and Miscellaneous) Act 1983, the Essential Services Commission (the Commission) is responsible for determining the maximum charges for taxi services in the Melbourne metropolitan taxi zone (the metropolitan zone) and the urban and large regional taxi zone (the urban zone).
The Commission’s last review was completed on 17 June 2016. During the review, two matters arose after the close of the final consultation process. These matters related to the airport taxi rank fee and the drafting of the taxi fare schedule.
In our final report we stated we would address these matters after the completion of the 2016 fare review in order to give stakeholders an adequate opportunity to provide their views.
On 12 August 2016 the Commission released the Updating the Schedule of Maximum Taxi Fares Document consultation paper. The consultation paper presents our proposed approaches to the airport rank fee and the drafting of the taxi fare schedule.
Submissions on the consultation paper are due by close of business 9 September 2016.
