Victorians urged to have their say on maximum non-cash taxi surcharge review

The Essential Services Commission has today released a consultation paper that seeks to establish the best approach to reviewing the maximum non-cash payment surcharge.
Victorians are being asked to have their say on the review of how much taxis can charge for processing non-cash payments.
The state transport regulator is required to set the maximum surcharge for taxis by July next year.
The surcharge is currently set at 5 per cent.
The commission is looking for feedback on the proposed review with consultation open through Engage Victoria until 4 February 2019.
The commission’s director of price monitoring and regulation Marcus Crudden says anyone who has a view on the appropriate level of the surcharge is welcome to make a submission.
"When we determine the maximum surcharge our objective is to promote efficiency and the long-term interests of Victorian consumers, while also allowing taxi payment processors to recover reasonable cost.
"During this review we will establish our methodology and approach, which we will then use to determine the maximum surcharge, this paper marks the start of our review,” he said.
Interested stakeholders can submit feedback through the Engage Victoria website.
