Essential Services Commission chair Ron Ben-David has ended his term at the head of the state’s economic regulator after 10 years in the role.
Commission chief executive John Hamill says the outgoing chair has been an inspiring and transformative leader.
“Over the past decade, Dr Ben-David has cemented the commission’s role as a leading economic regulator.
“In the last three years alone, the commission has taken great strides in transforming the state’s water pricing framework and reforming energy regulation in Victoria as well as developing new codes to help customers experiencing family violence,” he said.
Dr Hamill says the commission has grown in confidence and responsibilities under Dr Ben-David’s leadership.
“This has included increasing consumer protections for energy customers, monitoring, setting and reporting on prices in the energy sector, as well as taking on roles with the Port of Melbourne and assessing higher rate cap applications from councils.
“We wish Dr Ben-David well in his future endeavours,” he said.
Commissioner Kate Symons now takes over as acting chair.
