EnergyAustralia Pty Limited penalty notices 2026

EnergyAustralia Pty Limited (EnergyAustralia) has paid penalties totaling $276,626 after we issued 7 penalty notices on 12 June 2026.

We issued the penalty notices to EnergyAustralia for its alleged failure to comply with life support registration requirements for two customers operating businesses across multiple sites within required timeframes. 

The alleged conduct involved:

• Failing to record the details of the two life support customers within one business day
• Failing to give those customers the required information to help them prepare for an unplanned outage, within five business days
• Failing to pass on details of these customers to the electricity and gas distributors within one business day. 

EnergyAustralia’s processes indicated it did not have adequate policies or systems in place to ensure life support requirements of people residing at multi-site facilities are registered within appropriate timeframes. These customers were informed they were on EnergyAustralia’s cheapest available plan when that was not the case.
