Overview
Telstra Energy (Retail) Pty Ltd (ACN 645 100 447) has applied for a licence to sell electricity by retail under section 18 of the Electricity Industry Act 2000 (Vic) and a licence to sell gas by retail under section 25 of the Gas Industry Act 2001 (Vic).
We may grant or refuse to grant the application for any reason we consider appropriate having regard to our objectives under the Electricity Industry Act 2000 (Vic), the Gas Industry Act 2001 (Vic) and the Essential Services Commission Act 2001 (Vic).

Feedback on the licence applications
Feedback on the licence applications closed on 1 July 2021.
We received 14 submissions regarding Telstra Energy’s application for electricity and gas retail licences. Ten Victorian customers or customer representatives responded to the questionnaire on Engage Victoria and four written submissions were received from the following organisations:
- St Vincent de Paul Society
- Consumer Action Law Centre, Financial Counselling Australia, Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and Financial Counselling Victoria (joint submission)
- Energy Users Association of Australia
- Victorian Pride Lobby.
We also received feedback from Victorian seniors and Indigenous representatives.
