This manual outlines what happens in the electricity or gas industry when a electricity or gas retailer's licence is revoked, or an electricity retailer's right to acquire electricity in the wholesale market is suspended. It may also apply when a gas retailer has been deregistered as a market participant.
Retailer of Last Resort Manual
The Electricity Industry Act 2000 and the Gas Industry Act 2001 give us broad discretion to develop and implement certain features of electricity and gas retailer of last resort schemes, in the event of a failed energy retailer.
These features include the tariffs, terms and conditions upon which customers of the failed retailer would be supplied with electricity and/or gas by the retailer of last resort.
In 2008 we released a final decision on retailer of last resort customer charges.
