Electricity and gas licences and exemptions
We review applications for electricity and gas licences. We can also revoke licences if electricity and gas suppliers don't align with the Energy Retail Code.
Some people or businesses who sell or supply electricity are exempt from our electricity licensing requirements. These people may need to register their exemption with us.
We sometimes ask licensed energy retailers and distributors to undertake compliance audits. When businesses undertake these audits, we ask them to select auditors from our pre-approved audit panel.
Read our latest quarterly update on the Victorian energy market, which includes information on discount offers, customer disconnections, payment difficulties, wrongful disconnections, new licences and what we're doing to improve outcomes for consumers.
Anyone supplying or selling electricity in Victoria must hold an electricity licence granted by us, or be exempt from that requirement. Learn about how to prepare to register with us for an exemption.
