Electricity and gas licences and exemptions
We review and make decisions on applications for electricity and gas licences. We can also vary or revoke licences.
Some people or businesses who sell or supply electricity are exempt from our electricity licensing requirements. These people may need to register their exemption with us.
We sometimes ask licensed energy retailers and distributors to undertake compliance audits. When businesses undertake these audits, we ask them to select auditors from our pre-approved audit panel.
Our latest energy market update includes information on new energy licences, our draft advice on the Victorian Default Offer, new rules we have developed and are implementing, feed-in tariff rates, customers in debt and facing disconnection, and energy company compliance.
Anyone supplying or selling electricity in Victoria must hold an electricity licence granted by us, or be exempt from that requirement. Learn about how to register with us for an exemption.
