On 6 November 2008, the Commission commenced a review of the prices to apply to water and sewerage services provided by the three metropolitan Melbourne retail water businesses and the bulk water and sewerage services provided by Melbourne Water for the four year regulatory period from 1 July 2009. These businesses were required to submit their final water plans to the Commission on 5 November. The review of their prices was deferred while the Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission conducted an inquiry into the structure of Melbourne’s retail water industry. Interim price increases determined by the Minister were adopted for these businesses for 2008-09. The Commission will assess the businesses' final water plans against certain principles outlined in the Water Industry Regulatory Order and decide whether to approve or specify the prices, or the manner in which prices are to be determined, for the services provided by these businesses over the regulatory period. The Commission completed a review of the prices for urban water services in 2005 and for the regional, rural and Melbourne Water’s drainage and waterways services in 2008. View final decision.
