The Commission has a role in undertaking reviews/investigations into transport related matters, as requested by relevant Ministers under industry specific legislation.Division 9 of Part VI of the Transport Act 1983 provides for the Minister for Transport to refer to the Commission an investigation into any matter in relation to hire car licence fees, special purpose vehicle licences, taxi-cab fares or taxi-cab hiring rates.Part 8, Section 212 of the Accident Towing Services Act 2007 provides for the Minister for Roads and Ports to refer to the Commission an investigation into any matter in relation to accident towing and storage charges.Before referring any transport related matter to the Commission, the relevant Minister must consult with the Minister for Finance (the Minister administering the Essential Services Commission Act 2001).
