The Minister for Finance, on request from the Minister for Local Government, has advised the Commission not to proceed with the Local Government Services Report for 2010-11. The Government is currently considering its options for local government benchmarking as part of its wider policies in the local government sector and will advise of its plans in due course. We thank all councils, councillors, council officers and relevant departments who have contributed to our work program over the last two years. Background On 12 August 2009 the Premier of Victoria announced that the Commission would be charged with the responsibility of developing a performance monitoring framework for local government in Victoria. This was formalised in the Terms of Reference issued on 15 October 2009 by the Minister for Finance on the advice of the Minister for local government. The Commission's final report Establishing a Victorian Local Government Services Report contains our final recommendations on the matter. This report was submitted to the Government in June 2010 and published in July 2010.
