The Electricity distributors' budgets and charges for the provision of metering and metering data services to small business and domestic customers (customers using less than 160MWh of electricity per annum) will be assessed in 2009.An Order in Council made by the Governor in Council under sections 15A and 46D of the Electricity Industry Act 2000 requires the regulator to determine the prices distributors can charge for metering and metering data services and sets out the factors it can consider in making its determination. The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has made significant changes to the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project (see the link below to the AMI Amendment Order in Council) and the regulatory requirements from those imposed by Order in Council in 2007 and a revised framework and approach for the regulator's review is required. The review and approval of charges is to be conducted in 2009 by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and the Commission is commencing the framework and approach consultation decision process in 2008, which will be concluded by the AER in January 2009, to enable distributors to make budget proposals to the AER by 27 February 2009 in accordance with dates required in the revised Order.Related projects - Interval meter reassignment requirements
