As part of its role the Commission publishes codes and guidelines which impose certain obligations on the water businesses.
Codes are made under section 4F of the Water Industry Act 1994 in accordance with clause 15 of the Water Industry Regulatory Order 2012. Guidelines are published pursuant to section 13 of the Essential Services Act 2001.
Changes to Urban Customer Service Code and Trade Waste Customer Service Code
This final decision presents the Essential Services Commission’s amendments to the Commission’s Urban, and Trade Waste Customer Service Codes following changes to two water regulations. The regulations cover water businesses’ interactions with their customers on matters such as the testing and maintenance of water meters, the connection of properties to sewerage networks, and definitions of trade waste.
