In June 2014, Victoria’s regional and country taxi zones began operating under a fare notification regime. For the first five years of the regime, the Commission is responsible for publishing an annual report on regional and country taxi monitoring. Each report looks at the cost of operating a taxi in regional and country areas and whether further investigation is required into fare prices.
This year’s report notes that between June 2014 and June 2016, the majority of regional and country taxi operators made no change to their fares. Following consultation with taxi operators, the Commission determined that the operators who did increase their fares had plausible explanation for doing so. As a result, no further investigation is warranted.
