Section 186 1(b) of the Transport (Compliance and Miscellaneous Act) 1983 provides for the Minister for Transport to refer to the Commission an investigation into any matter in relation to taxi-cab fares or taxi-cab hiring rates. The Commission's role is to review and provide independent advice to the Minister on Victorian taxi-cab fares and hiring rates.
