Regulatory Audits
Completed or in progress
To ensure that the energy retailers meet their regulatory obligations, in 2010-11 the Commission required the businesses serving 97 per cent of Victorian customers to undertake independent audits of their compliance. The retailers are AGL, Australian Power & Gas (APG), Lumo Energy, Momentum Energy, Neighbourhood Energy, Origin Energy, Powerdirect, Red Energy, Simply Energy & TRUenergy.
The Commission consulted with energy retailers and stakeholders to establish the scope of the audits, which cover: the reliability and accuracy of performance indicators that the businesses report to the Commission; their licence conditions to monitor their compliance with their obligations and report breaches to the Commission; and a number of specific obligations related to marketing conduct, billing, financial hardship and other matters, all arising from the Commission's codes and guidelines. The audits themselves are conducted in accordance with the Commission's Guideline no. 22: Energy industry - Regulatory audits of retail energy businesses.
The summary audit reports will be published as they are finalised. The schedule below outlines the expected dates of publication and provides a link to the completed summary report. These dates may be subject to change:
